Triphala: What Is It, and How Do You Use It?

A fruit called Triphala has been used by the Indian medical system Ayurveda for a long time. It has a lot of health benefits. There are a lot of medical conditions for which it is now used. It hasn’t been proven, though, that it’s good.

Triphala is sold in natural food and supplement stores and on the internet. This article will cover its alleged health benefits, side effects, dosing, drug interactions, and more. You can read about them all here.

What Is the Purpose of Triphala?

Because Triphala can treat many different health problems in Ayurvedic medicine, many people think it can help them. However, like many multi-herbal treatments, Triphala hasn’t been proven to work yet.

Triphala is also thought to help with digestion, but it is also believed to help with the following:

  • Inflammation can be cut down.
  • Controlling your diabetes
  • Speed up weight loss
  • Lower levels of triglycerides

Valid for various illnesses, such as bacterial and fungal infections.

There hasn’t been a lot of research done so far to back up these claims. The research was done in small groups or with poor methods. However, some promising results have been found that call for more study.

Reducing your weight

Triphala has been shown to help mice who eat a lot of fat, according to a study in the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine in 2012.

Lipids in the “bad” LDL category

Some of the things we’re going to do may help keep type 2 diabetes under control in the animals we treat.

Enzymes in the liver

Oral glucose tolerance measures how well the body can eat and get rid of sugar (glucose) from the bloodstream.

If humans do the same thing, we don’t know yet.

Oral Health Issues

Much research has been done on Triphala’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal effects in the test tube. On the other hand, humans seem to be less likely to be affected by these changes.

According to research, taking Triphala can help lessen or even get rid of:

  • There are infections in the mouth.
  • A bacterial infection in the mouth
  • The gums become red and swollen.

A study in the Journal of Periodontology in 2016 found that people who took a Triphala mouthwash twice a day for 60 days had less plaque, bacteria in their mouths, and signs of gingivitis than people who took a placebo.

Oral Health and Preventive Dentistry published a study that found that Triphala mouthwash reduced cavities better than chlorhexidine gluconate, a mouthwash.

When you want to make Triphala, you’ll need to eat many foods high in vitamin E and flavonoids. Because these antioxidants wish to keep cells from getting hurt, they get rid of unstable atoms called free radicals. This method may slow down or prevent cataracts and other aging-related illnesses.

Rat pups that were nine days old were studied in 2010 by the Journal of Ayurvedic and Integrative Medicine to see how Triphala might help them. This is how it worked: Triphala was given to half of the rats before they were given shots that caused cataracts. Then, Triphala wasn’t given to the other half.

Triphala-treated mice only had cataracts in 20% of their eyes at the end of the study, compared to 100% of the mice in the control group. According to the study results, Triphala may help keep other eye illnesses, like macular degeneration, from happening. First, however, many things need to be done.

Consequences that might happen.

Gastrointestinal side effects, such as:

  • Gas is a good thing.
  • The bowels are very angry.
  • Cramps happen
  • At this point, the person is likely to have diarrhea.
  • This can happen even if you only take a small amount.

Dosage reduction may help with mild diarrhea or other side effects that happen. However, you should stop taking Triphala if your symptoms don’t improve after a few weeks.

Whether Triphala is safe for long-term use and how it interacts with other drugs is unknown. There are a lot of possible reasons why this ambiguity is there:

The dosage can be different depending on how it is made.

Depending on the disease being treated, some health care professionals may add more herbs and substances.

When you’re pregnant, nursing, or have young kids; it’s not clear if Triphala is safe for you to take. So these people should stay away from Triphala as a safety measure.

It might also be a good idea to stay away from Triphala if you have diabetes or high blood pressure because it can make them worse.

Also, enzymes in the liver called cytochrome P450 break down some of the chemicals in Triphala (CYP450). Other drugs that CYP450 breaks down may raise or lower blood levels of Triphala when they are taken together.

You might want to stay away from Triphala if you’re taking any of the following medicines:

  • Quinidine, an anti-arrhythmia drug, is one of many.
  • When you take Trileptal with the anticonvulsants Tegretol and Carbamazepine, you will be less likely to have a seizure (oxcarbazepine)
  • Nizoral (ketoconazole) and Vfend are both antifungal drugs (voriconazole)
  • Orap is an antipsychotic drug (pimozide)
  • For example, atypical antidepressants like nefazodone are suitable for people who aren’t getting better with other medicines.
  • Klonopin and Halcion are two of the most commonly prescribed anti-anxiety drugs. They are both benzodiazepine sedatives (triazolam)
  • For example, antiretroviral medicines like Reyataz and Crixivan can help (indinavir)
  • Drugs like Sandimmune, which weaken the immune system, are out there (cyclosporine)
  • They’re antibiotics with a macrolide structure, like clarithromycin and telithromycin antibiotics.
  • Ergomar, a migraine medicine, was used to help (ergotamine)
  • Painkillers like Duragesic and alfentanil, which are made with fentanyl, can help people who have a lot of pain.

Preparation and Dosage

Triphala is now available at a lot of different drugstores. In addition, people can buy it online and at stores that sell Ayurvedic healing products.

A lot of different kinds of Triphala are available, like:

  • There is a capsule in this game.
  • Take out
  • Juice
  • The powder is excellent.
  • In this case, the Tincture is the best way to get the

Capsules and pills are the easiest to give to people. Between 500 and 1,000 mg of Triphala are sold in most drugs sold in stores. This word means how much of an extract is used, not how much each component is used, which is what dosage means.

Consider buying a brand name at your local drug store instead of trying to get the “real” Triphala. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says that at least 25% of Ayurvedic treatments had the lead, and 50% had mercury.

Do not be swayed by any health claims a company may make at the end. It is against the law for supplement manufacturers to produce specific health claims about Triphala, not to mention that there is no evidence that it is good for you.

As an Ayurvedic medicine, Triphala is full of powerful antioxidants that may help treat many health problems, including digestive issues, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, and cataracts. Despite this, there is no scientific proof to back up these claims.

If you’re looking for a mild laxative, you might want to try Triphala. However, health care providers should be consulted before using it because some drugs may not work if used.
